A Vietnamese delegation led by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) and its General Directorate of Energy (GDE) has presented about the country’s experiences and approach to develop its wind energy market at the 16^th World Wind Energy Conference (WWEC) from 12- 14 June 2017 in Malmö, Sweden. 

In the presentation about the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) of wind power in Viet Nam, MOIT/GDE reaffirmed the choice of Feed-in Tariffs (FiT) as the key incentive to develop the market over auctioning for wind power. As the country disposes of around 3,000 km coastal line with good to excellent wind conditions, Viet Nam’s potential to develop wind power is large. The government also realizes this potential and supports wind energy development since 2011 with a FiT.

This year, the WWEC has been one of the largest global platforms for wind energy associations with more than 300 participants from 39 countries. At the conference many countries re-confirmed the significance of wind energy of the Paris Accord on Climate Change which is paving the way for a 100 % renewable energy future for the world.

The visit of Vietnamese delegation was supported by the DKTI Wind Energy project which is implemented by MOIT/GIZ and commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ) under the German Climate Technology Initiative (DKTI).
