GIZ Energy Support Programme

Study trip on bioenergy and PV development in Germany

From 17 – 24 September 2016, The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Project under the MOIT/GIZ Energy Support Programme organizes a study trip to Germany with the participation of policy makers from the General Directorate of Energy of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Home Affairs, representatives from Departments of Industry and Trade  and Departments of Planning and Investment of Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, An Giang and Hau Giang provinces which have a big potential for biomass and PV projects; representatives from the National Assembly Office and Electricity Corporation of Vietnam.

During one week in Germany, we will meet with relevant institutions and academic bodies to exchange experiences about renewable energy planning and policy development on national and state level, with a particular focus on biomass and PV. More importantly, meetings with best-practice biomass and PV power plants will hopefully bring a helpful insight to you on the use of such technologies, including decentralized power production.

Importance of biomass and photovoltaics (PV) to the future electricity generation in Vietnam has been clearly indicated in the revised National Power Development Plan VII, where electricity production of biomass was set at 1.2% in 2020 and 2.1% in 2030 and targets for PV were proposed at 1.6% in 2020 and 3.3% in 2030.  However, as renewable energy in Vietnam is still at the initial phase of its development, learning from and sharing experiences with countries successful in the field of renewable energy promotion is vital to proceed on the outlined path.

With its long-established experience and well proven success in renewable energy utilization in general, and biomass and PV in particular, and with the continuously strengthened development cooperation between the Germany and Viet Nam, Germany is a suitable candidate for a study visit to acquire more knowledge and experience for the promotion of renewable energy in Viet Nam.
