The training course on solar integration into power systems/distribution networks took place on 19-22 July in Da Nang city.

The hybrid training was a part of the ‘Commercial and Industrial Rooftop Solar’(CIRTS) project, which is implemented by GIZ and the Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The trainers were Dr. Thomas Ackermann and Mr. Leonard Hülsmann from Energynautics. Nearly 30 trainees were from Vietnam Electricity (EVN), regional Power Corporations, Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporations and the National Load Dispatch Center.

On the first day, the training provided trainees with an overview of solar energy development, and knowledge about grid control and operations in the renewable energy context. The participants were introduced a case study about India’s distribution system study for rooftop solar energy.

The experts introduced solar forecasting, modelling of solar energy in distributing systems, investigation and illustration of solar impacts on thermal and voltage limits, and grid operation concept on the next two days. They also discussed with the trainers about regulatory issues, such as grid upgrade, connection and operation cost, and energy tariff design.

On the last day, the trainees learnt about Smart Grid technologies, storage and electric vehicles, the data collection management of solar energy, and certification processes for solar equipment and installations. They discussed case studies on distributed solar energy and virtual power plants.

Ms. Phan Thi Hong Hanh – Deputy Head of EVN’s Organisation and Human Resource Department and Mr. Nathan Moore – CIRTS Project Director – jointly hosted the closing and certificate award ceremony at the end of the training.
