The key points discussed during the meeting included:
– The participants underscored the pivotal role of green hydrogen energy (GH2) in the power sector. GH2 is necessary for the country’s energy transition, especially in scenarios where renewable energy faces curtailment due to the excess of solar and wind generation and the inflexibility of the current power system.
– The lack of a clear definition of GH2 in power market design and the absence of essential mechanisms impede the industry’s progress.
– It is necessary to formulate a comprehensive GH2 roadmap that helps stakeholders clearly understand their role in shaping the industry’s future.
The delegates also acknowledged the untapped potential of GH2 across Viet Nam’s various industries and proposed leveraging mechanisms like Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) to provide Viet Nam with technical and financial support, thereby fostering the growth of the industry.
The meeting was coordinated by Mr. Markus Bissels, Project Director of PtX Outreach implemented by GIZ ESP and Mr. Vo Thanh Tung, project officer. It involved the participation of seven German enterprises operating in the energy sector in Viet Nam including Enertrag, Bosch, The Green Solutions (TGS), TÜV SÜD, Siemens, ThyssenKrupp AG, and Bundesanstalt für Geowissenschaften un Rohstoffe (BGR).
