On 22 – 26 May 2023, the German training week on green hydrogen took place in Ho Chi Minh City.
The training course provided participants with a series of topics, namely, the introduction to renewable Power to X (PtX), the production of green hydrogen (H2) and its derivatives, renewable PtX economics, the transport and storage of renewable H2, renewable PtX market ramp-up, the sustainability criteria for renewable PtX, support policies and regulations for renewable PtX, and subsidies and grants worldwide.
The course was organised by the Project Development Programme (PDP), as a part of the GIZ Energy Support Programme (ESP). The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) is funding the PDP under the umbrella initiative “Mittelstand Global” (Global?SMEs).
Viet Nam has abundant potential for solar power, onshore and offshore wind power, so the potential for green hydrogen production is large. To develop the market, such training aims to inform different local participants about green hydrogen use as an alternative to grey hydrogen, to draw attention to existing and new applications (e.g. in the steel industry, in petrochemical and in the glass industry) and to explain the implications of the green hydrogen project in other parts of the world.
Speakers at the training were representatives from national and international businesses and development organisations. The participants came from power, oil and gas, power consulting companies in Viet Nam.
