On 15 December 2021, the Office of the Steering Committee for Energy Efficiency – Ministry of Industry and Trade, in collaboration with the Vietnam Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency Association (VECEA) held the awards ceremony for the “Energy Efficiency Award in Industry – Construction in 2021, TOP RUNNER 2021.” The ceremony took place both on-site and online.
The Energy Efficiency Awards 2021 are aimed to promote energy-saving solutions in business, to recognize and honor models and solutions that use energy economically and efficiently in the field of industrial production and in construction works, and at the same time, encourage enterprises to implement advanced technology and management solutions.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu – Deputy Director of the Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development (Ministry of Industry and Trade) noted: “The awards are aimed at realizing the goal of saving 8-10% of the total national energy consumption. They are part of the National Energy Efficiency Programme for the 2019-2030 period (VNEEP 3). At the same time, the awards are expected to faciliate the country’s sustainable socio-economic development, thereby contributing to Vietnam’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment.”
After only 3 months since its launching, the awards attracted the attention and participation of a large number of businesses throughout the country despite being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, many FDI enterprises have also participated in the awards with impressive energy-saving solutions and products.

Mr. Do Huu Hao – Chairman of the Vietnam Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency Association (VECEA) shared: “Currently, the amount of energy wasted in industrial production facilities and in construction sites in Vietnam is still very large. Therefore, the application of energy-saving solutions in industry and construction is of great importance, along with investment in technological innovation to introduce energy-efficient products into the market. This will contribute to the national energy security, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and protecting the environment.”

At the award ceremony, Mr. Markus Bissel – Head of Energy Efficiency Component/4E Project, GIZ Energy Support Programme noted: “The Energy Efficiency Award in Industry 2021 is an opportunity for the German government to actively support the Ministry of Industry and Trade in raising awareness about the potential for economical and efficient use of energy in the industry sector, honoring businesses and outstanding individuals, as well as promoting and contributing to the replication of energy efficiency solutions”.
After over 3 months, the Organizing Committee received a total of 148 applications from 72 enterprises, with nearly 300 energy-saving solutions. In addition, 293 high-performance products competed for the TOP RUNNER 2021 Award. This can be considered a success, given the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic.
The Energy Efficiency Awards are an annual activity implemented within the framework of the National Energy Efficiency Programme for the 2019-2030 period (VNEEP 3). After the contest, the Organizing Committee will select 4 enterprises with outstanding solutions to submit applications for the ASEAN Energy Efficiency Award.
