This afternoon, an interesting virtual workshop has brought local and international representatives of financial and project development sectors together, to explore emerging market opportunities in Viet Nam’s bioenergy sector. The event also provided an outlook for supporting the country’s financial experts to unlock the investment potential of bioenergy project development.

The activity was organised by GIZ in cooperation with the Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority/Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Germany-based Renewables Academy (RENAC). More than 60 people participated in the event.

Presentations at the workshop introduced an overview on agriculture and forestry industry and their potential for bioenergy, investment opportunities to Viet Nam’s bioenergy market and experiences of biomass plant investment from Vietnamese and Thai companies. Speakers were Dr. Matthias Eichelbrönner, Ms. Eugenia Masvikeni and Ms. Martina Schweneke who are all international experts, Ms. Kochaporn Krutkong from KPN Green Energy Solution Company and Mr. Mai Thanh Ha Hue from the Thermal Power Engineering Center of the Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 4 (PECC4).

At the end of the workshop, the participants were surveyed their training need. Based on the surveys, learning programmes and other relevant activities will be designed for the financial sector in the coming time.

The workshop falls within the framework of the ‘Climate Protection through Sustainable Bioenergy Markets in Viet Nam’ (BEM) project, which is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
