22 April 2022, GIZ Energy Support Programme (GIZ/ESP), Da Lat University, ENVELOPS Co. Ltd., HAEZOOM Corp., Korea Leading Engineering System Inc., Green Technology Center and Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE e.V. organized a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony for establishing a close partnership and proactive cooperation between all parties in researching and developing the pilot agri voltaics model, as well as enabling co-facilitation of market development for this new technology in Da Lat.

This is one of the cooperation activities between the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH under the sponsorship of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and development partners, research partners and private stakeholders with the aim of promoting green energy solutions development and application, contributing to the realization of sustainable energy transition in Viet Nam and the net-zero target by 2050.

Mr. Thomas Krohn, Project & Portfolio Manager – GIZ/ESP emphasized in his remarks that: “The agri voltaics model is a new model not only for Viet Nam but also for other countries in the world. GIZ has realized the enormous potential of the agri voltaics model for Viet Nam, a country with large-scale agricultural production and increasing demand for electricity consumption to meet economic growth rates. Implementing this model enables the improvement of land use efficiency due to the utilization of agricultural space for solar power production. The scale up of the agri voltaics model will generate a significant volume of clean energy for agriculture and all economic activities in the region as long as it is thoroughly studied and calculated. We hope that GIZ can join hand with Viet Nam to pave the way for the country’s fulfillment of carbon neutrality goal by 2050.”

The project outcomes can contribute to the City’s carbon emission reduction strategy and promote a smart agricultural production system. The cooperation between the Government of Viet Nam and the Government of South Korea will be led by Green Technology Center. ENVELOPS, a renewable energy project developer focused on climate change issues, is currently conducting a feasibility study of a 10MW agri voltaics project in Da Lat City partnered with the Korean Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises. This pilot project will be one of key milestones of the study on the actual potential of such ag voltaic system in Da Lat.

On occasion of this Ceremony, the Korea Energy Agency (KEA) also sent its congratulation to this important initiative. KEA is a governmental agency under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy that carries out national energy policies for energy efficiency improvement, new and renewable energy dissemination, and climate change mitigation.

This Memorandum of Understanding will be valid and effective for three years, reflecting the vision, outlook and efforts of parties involved in jointly implementing and successfully achieving sustainable development goals.
