As one of the most dynamically growing economies in Asia, Viet Nam faces an enormous increase in energy demand that will continue to grow at double-digit rates in the coming years.  With regards to energy consumption, industry, transportation and residential areas are the three biggest electricity consuming sectors, which accounts for 47%, 15% and 30% respectively (*).

The government of Viet Nam is strongly committed to increase energy efficiency. In 2010, the Law No. 50/2010/QH12 introduced and followed by Decree No. 21/2011/N?-CP has outlined the major policies and measures to encourage economical and efficient utilization of energy.

In 2016, in the revised Power Development Plan VII, the government of Vietnam set a national target on energy efficiency of up  to 10%  saving of total electricity consumption for the period 2016 – 2020.
