On 22 June, a delegation from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany co-organized a Seminar on Renewable energy with An Giang province to discuss about potential cooperation in renewable energy production. The meeting was part of the joint Vietnamese-German project ”Energy Transition in Partnership“ with Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the North-Eastern province (Bundesland) bordering the Baltic Sea as German partner.
The project is coordinated by the GIZ in Viet Nam which has been involved in green energy issues in Vietnam since 2009.
The delegation consisted of experts from Me-Le Biogas GmbH, a company that designs, constructs and operates biomass-plants all over the world and also trains plant- technicians and -managers, the Academy for Sustainable Development (Akademie für nachhaltige Entwicklung, ANE) involved in local participation projects and the Ministry of Energy, Infrastructure and Digitalization, responsible for legislation, funding and strategies as well as GIZ representatives from Vietnam and Germany.
Official meetings were held with the People’s Committee and various provincial Departments on issues related to renewable energy and on the new cooperation between the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the province of An Giang .
Dr. Graham M. Butt from the Ministry of Energy, head of the delegation, was impressed by the detailed and convincing strategy decided upon by the People’s Committee of An Giang in 2015. ”I am convinced An Giang has outlined some necessary and challenging objectives to consistently reduce GHG-emissions in the next decade and up to 2030. Hopefully, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern can give a hand to achieve these goals.“, he said.
The delegation also participated in the Provincial Biomass Planning Workshop on Thursday, June 22nd in Long Xuyen and presented Mecklenburg-Vorpommern‘s experience and capacities in the field of renewable ernergy provision that also cover expertise in wind and solar energy.
”Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has developed into a province of renewable energy. For a couple of years now the annual renewable power generation has exceeded the regional consumption. Due to the good conditions many companies of this sector have settled here”, said Mr. Christian Pegel, the Minister of Energy, Infrastructure and Digitalization.
After the meeting, visits to local plants and possible new sights for biomass plants were conducted in order to give a detailed insight into the conditions and opportunities for renewable energy in An Giang.
Further along this year companies from An Giang will send experts to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for internships to work in renewable energy projects in German companies and receive further training. An official delegation of An Giang government officials will also visit Mecklenburg-Vorpommern this autumn to intensify the contacts to the government of the Bundesland and learn about the facilities and management schemes in North-Eastern Germany.
