The Nang luong Viet Nam magazine has recently published an article about other countries’ policies on managing, collecting and recycling expired solar panels, and recommendations to the Southeast Asian country. Read the article (in Vietnamese): https://bit.ly/3iF0TxB

The authors are Ms. Le Thi Thoa – Technical Coordinator of GIZ’s rooftop solar project (CIRTS), Ms. Pham Nguyet Anh – Lecturer of Thuy Loi (Water Resources) University and Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan Thang – Officer of the Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The group of the experts gave examples from the European Union, the US, Australia and other Asian countries on the matter. They then proposed solar panels should be added to the list of products that manufacturers and importers must recall, recycle and process in Viet Nam.

According to them, local authorities should strengthen their inspection and supervision of collecting solar panel waste. “In some cases, they should set up interdisciplinary teams to oversee the collection, storage, transportation and treatment of expired solar panels from manufacturers and distributors.”

“For the long term, it is essential to conduct research and develop technologies for collecting, recycling and treating solar panel waste as well as issue legal framework on managing and monitoring those activities in the country,” the experts wrote.
