On September 24 in Hanoi, GIZ and the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam (ERAV) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) co-organised an immediate consultation workshop to gather experts’ views, which will be used as a foundation for developing financial incentive mechanisms to strengthen the implementation of demand response programmes for commercial and industrial customers in Viet Nam.

Hosting the event were Mr. Pham Quang Huy – ERAV’s Deputy Director General and Mr. Markus Bissel – Director of GIZ Viet Nam’s Smart Grids for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SGREEE) Project. The workshop welcomed representatives from affiliated entities under the MOIT, the Ministry of Finance and the Vietnam Electricity as well as experts from the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Viet Nam Electrical Engineering Association and GIZ-assigned consultant team.

At the event, the national consultants reviewed Viet Nam’s existing regulatory frameworks for carrying out demand response programmes while the international ones shared international best experiences and offered appropriate recommendations for the implementation.

Following the presentations were many questions, intense discussions and constructive suggestions to the consultant team. All the comments will be incorporated and presented in the consultants’ final report.

The workshop was part of the SGREEE Project, which is implemented by ERAV and GIZ, on behalf of the MOIT and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), respectively.
