To be proactive with the energy transition and ensure national grids’ safety and efficiency, Viet Nam should learn new application of other countries on using big data for forecasting renewable energy generation, controlling and managing microgrids, and integrating solar power systems into the grids.

Those issues were addressed at the “Exchange forum on energy transition, digital transition and smart grid,” which took place on 19-20 December 2022 in Ho Chi Minh City. GIZ and Vietnam Electricity (EVN) jointly organised the event.

The forum was a part of the Commercial and Industrial Rooftop Solar project, which is implemented by GIZ and the Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

At the forum, Prof. Tran Quoc Tuan from the National Institute for Solar Energy (INES) and the National Institute for Nuclear Science and Technology of Paris Saclay University shared in-depth information about on digital transformation and smart grid. He talked about the role of the energy storage system to optimise grid systems, the integration of electrical vehicles to the grids, and the control and management of energy for the microgrids.

Expert from the National Load Dispatch Centre presented experience of using AI, especially on the application of forecasting renewable energy generation during the operation of power systems.

Dr. Eckerhard Troster – CEO of Energynautics – provided international experience, mainly from the Europe, of integrating solar power systems into the grid, and controlling and management strategies.

After the presentations, national engineers and international experts had a discussion on applications of advanced technologies in EVN’s grid connection and operation.

Attending the forum were leaders and representatives from the EVN, the National Power Transmission Corporation, the Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation, the Southern Power Corporation, the Vietnam Electricity Association, local and international experts.
