Following the last month’s workshop on the conversion of fuels in boiler technology, on 27th November 2020, GIZ, Viet Nam Textile & Apparel Association (VITAS) and Decathlon Viet Nam co-organised a matchmaking event connecting biomass users (whether already or would-be) in the textiles, garments and footwear sector. It aimed at promoting sustainable production and CO2 emission reduction. The event brought about an insightful look into the market and laid the background for long-term fuel transitions, at the same time tighten the links amongst companies to strengthen knowledge and technology exchange.
The format of the event was as follows: There were two spaces – a small fair and a workshop, allowing participating companies to showcase their products as well as corporate profile, while also able to listen to presentations sharing about topics with regard to biomass business and technology. 7 biomass suppliers and biomass boiler producers directly interacted with 20 textiles and footwear companies, with a particular focus on VITAS’s member entities and Decathlon’s suppliers.
The workshop started off with an overview presentation about the sustainability aspects of the use of biomass for heat and electricity generation prepared by GIZ. VITAS then introduced its extended network and the important role of this sector in the macro economy. Decathlon emphasized again the CO2 reduction project and sustainable development objective of the brand, saying this activity is one of the feasible solutions in reaching its target. Especially, two out of seven suppliers presented in detail about the packages they offer in front of the whole crowd. While Thuan Hai company introduced its all-in-one or full energy service package (biomass fuels, boilers and maintenance & operation service), Dinh Viet company shared about their separate offers. Both showed commitment and interest in further meetings to customise their offer to potential future partners.
Acted as a forum to connect, the event wrapped up with many enthusiastic parties who are determined to fulfill the needs of interested companies through their solutions.

The event is part of the Climate Protection through Sustainable Bioenergy Markets in Viet Nam (BEM) project, implemented by GIZ and the Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority (EREA) – Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT). The project is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
