On October 25-26 in Hanoi, the scoping workshop ” Future scenarios and orientation for the Vietnamese national Hydrogen industry” was held with an aim to envision sectoral Hydrogen future and define pathways into PtX futures for Viet Nam toward Net Zero objective by the middle of the century.
The workshop was jointly organized by the GIZ Energy Support Programme and the Department of Oil, Gas and Coal (Ministry of Industry and Trade), within the framework of the PtX Outreach project funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK).
During the workshop, experts from Germany shared preliminary results from the “National Scoping Mission,” emphasizing key factors driving the development of the green hydrogen and Power-to-X (PtX) industry in Viet Nam, including: infrastructure, supporting policies, workforce capacity development, and political diplomacy. From Vietnamese side, the experts also shared the progress in developing the national hydrogen strategy for Viet Nam.
German experts also proposed several PtX development scenarios for Viet Nam by industries. Based on this, participants discussed and selected scenarios for specific industries, including Electricity, Chemical, Green Transportation, and Green Steel. In addition, the participants conducted a SWOT analysis on the current systems in the four specific industries mentioned above. This helped identify mega trending and change drivers, developed envisioned pathways for the sectors to achieve decarbonization objectives. The final outcome of the workshop will contribute to developing the Viet Nam’s hydrogen strategy in the future.
The workshop was attended by more than 20 participants from Department of Oil, Gas and Coal, Industry Agency, Chemical Agency (MOIT); Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam (MOT); Department of Industrial Economy (MPI); Institute of Energy; Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI); Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem), The Green Solution company, CECO company, as well as other enterprises and organization.
