Press Trip on ‘Journalism and Just Energy Transition’ (Journalism and JET) achieves great success

From September 23 to 25, 2024, ten journalists from various news agencies in Viet Nam – including radio, television, print, and online media – participated in a press trip on “Journalism and Just Energy Transition” (Journalism and JET) in Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan provinces.

Over the course of three working days, journalists had the opportunity to acquire new knowledge regarding renewable energy and energy transition, as well as enhancing journalistic skills in writing accurate, objective, and effective reports in the digital age. Additionally, they gained a heightened awareness of their own role in promoting energy transition in Viet Nam.

In addition to professional exchanges, journalists had the opportunity to meet with representatives of renewable energy enterprises in Binh Thuan and discussed the potential and challenges encountered while also emphasising the chance for localisation as domestic enterprises gradually participate in the supply chain of components and services for renewable energy plants during the “Journalism and JET” course.

Furthermore, the journalists visited Ninh Thuan Vocational College to learn about human resource training to suit corporate demands. The journalists were exposed to “green job” training classes, which provided students with the skills to work on renewable energy projects.

The school has collaborated extensively with industries to ensure the curriculum is relevant to present demands and fulfils future requirements as the renewable energy sector grows with new technology.

The training “Journalism and JET” gave me a deeper understanding of renewable energy and the just energy transition. Having access to reliable information sources and practical experience from experts, regulatory agencies, enterprises, and associations, has enhanced my confidence in writing about this topic in the future.” – Trong Trung, a reporter from Nhan Dan Online Newspaper, shared.

The training “Journalism and JET” sessions have provided networking and collaboration opportunities and promise to introduce additional high-quality reports on just energy transition. Journalists’ accurate, impartial, and in-depth articles will enhance public understanding and bolster support for Viet Nam Just Energy Transition.

The Press Trip was organized by 02 regional projects: the Clean, Affordable, and Secure Energy for Southeast Asia (CASE) and the Just Energy Transition for Coal Regions (IKI JET), funded by the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Actions (BMWK) via the International Climate Initiative (IKI), and jointly financed by the EU Commission (EC).
