Press release: Agreement signed to implement the Project “Strengthening the role of media to promote renewable energy”.

On September 11, 2020, in Hồ Chí Minh City, the EU – Viet Nam Energy Facility (EVEF) and the Center for Regional and Urban Studies (CRUS) signed an agreement to implement the project “Strengthening the role of media to promote renewable energy”. This is a technical assistance facility under the sub-component 1B of the EVEF. The signing ceremony was participated by Mr. Sven Ernedal - Project Director of EVEF, Ms. Lê Vân Anh - Director of CRUS, and Professor. Dr. Nguyễn Văn Phước, Chairman of the Hồ Chí Minh City Union of Science and Technology Associations (USTA – HCM).

The technical assistance for this project with CRUS aims to improve capacities and strengthen technical knowledge of journalists across Viet Nam in innovative reporting techniques in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency. It is anticipated that the 3 training courses on different aspects of energy journalisms will be explored through the duration of the project. In addition, the project will also connect Vietnamese journalists with international journalists to discuss challenges and opportunities in reporting on renewable energy and energy efficiency through a series of virtual roundtables. The project will be implemented from September 2020 to August 2021.

CRUS has been selected to be EVEF’s partner thanks to its extensive experience in delivering training to journalists on climate change and sustainable energy. It has successfully organized a journalist competition called “Human and Climate Change” in 2019 with the more than 60 articles submitted. CRUS is also implementing the Saigon Energy Hub with the objective to disseminate accurate information on these issues to the general public.

EU – Viet Nam Energy Facility is a Joint Technical Cooperation Project that is co-financed by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in close cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The aim of the Project is to contribute to the enhancing of governance of the energy sector with a view to facilitating the shift to a more sustainable energy development path in Viet Nam. The Project will also contribute to the implementation of the regulatory framework needed to achieve Viet Nam’s commitment to reduce its energy‐related green gas emission in the context of the Viet Nam’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
